Description

Note: 220gsm prints from this edition are currently drying, and will ship from the 18th July 2022

This print features a view of Wiltshire’s Neolithic Silbury Hill, the largest man made hill in Europe and one of the jewels of the Avebury complex.

The view is of Silbury Hill’s south-eastern side, from beneath a tree just over the River Kennett. The tree provided some welcome shade after a trek up to the West Kennett Long Barrow, and the framing of leaves and branches inspired me to develop this through pencil sketches into a relief print.

You can read more on Silbury Hill’s unique and fascinating story (the history of modern excavations and restorations is almost as fascinating as the hill itself) on English Heritage’s Silbury Hill history page.

The edition is limited to 30 prints, the majority will be pressed on 130gsm Winsor and Newton medium surface cartridge paper (ideal for mounting and framing), and a small proportion on 220gsm cartridge paper – heavier with a more interesting texture, which lends itself to different kinds of display, such as suspension from clips.

All impressions are made using professional and vegan relief printing ink, and pressed with a combination of rolling press and hand impression. Final adjustments are made by hand with ink and brush.

The paper choice and process naturally creates unique variations between each print within the edition.

This is a very special image – a place I’ve visited many, many times. It’s always a pleasure to see it from other people’s perspective! This view is wonderful. Completely and utterly evocative of the location. As beautiful as it is, there is an otherworldly feeling here, which the artist has reproduced perfectly. To own what is essentially an original work of art is always an honour, and this is an exceptional example of that.

From browsing the website, through the order, to delivery, this was a pleasure. Opening the parcel was a treat in itself. So much thought has been put into everything here.
