Cherhill Down and the White Horse, Wiltshire – original linocut print
£26.00
Wiltshire is famous for its chalk figures and for its ancient historical sites. Cherhill Down sits on the edge of the Avebury prehistoric complex, a World Heritage site comprising stone circles, ancient trackways and the unique Silbury Hill. This horse is the county’s second oldest, having been cut in 1780. Nearby are the younger Devizes and Hackpen Hill horses.
The view depicted is of the down and its monuments at sunrise, one morning in September, from the nearby fields of Blackland near Calne. It is not the classic first view most people have from the nearby main road, but one softened by rolling fields, hedgerows and wildflowers.

Description
An original linocut print of the Cherhill White Horse and the Lansdowne monument atop Cherhill Down, Wiltshire.
Wiltshire is famous for its chalk figures and for its ancient historical sites. Cherhill Down sits on the edge of the Avebury prehistoric complex, a World Heritage site. This horse is the county’s second oldest, having been cut in 1780. Nearby are the younger Devizes and Hackpen Hill horses.
I captured this view of the Down and its monuments at on a September morning from the nearby fields of Blackland near Calne. A softer view than from the main road, with rolling fields, hedgerows and wildflowers.
The print area is approximately 200mm wide by 140mm high on an A4-sized sheet. Ideal for an A4 landscape 10 x 8 inch frame when used with a carefully selected mount. This is an unframed, unmounted handmade print.
My prints are created using a small press with some hand finishing.
I created this print using professional oil-based and vegan relief printing ink and printed on acid-free 130gsm W&N medium surface cartridge paper. I choose materials designed to produce a long-lasting, archive-quality print with a small environmental footprint.
As with all relief printing, variation in appearance is a natural part of the hand-finished lino print process.
Print:
Paper size: A4 landscape (approximately 297mm x 210mm)
Printed area: approximately 200mm wide by 140mm
This is an open edition.

I cannot WAIT to get this on my wall. Everything is perfect, from the ordering process to the delivery and even the packaging is beautiful. The quality is outstanding.
The print itself is utterly captivating. The atmosphere and “feel” of the place is captured perfectly. It feels like an entire folk story in one single image. Thank you. 🙂
