English landscape study – limited edition A4 lino print

Original art print – a landscape study based on 1920s works by Ethelbert White for Richard Jeffries‘ autobiographical nature study, ‘The Story of My Heart’.

Edition limited to 16 impressions.

Printed on , the print is produced using professional oil-based, vegan relief printing ink. All my prints are created using a small press and some hand finishing.

I first encountered Ethelbert White reading ‘A History of British Wood Engraving’ by Albert Garrett. The work that inspired my version is reproduced only a few centimetres wide, but has alot of impact. The rendering of the sky alone is a triumph worthy of study. I decided to re-intepret the design – with some adaptations – to  learn White’s own visual language for rendering in just black and white. There are crisp, sweeping curved lines and blunt, ragged cuts to define the different textures of grass, bark, hillside and cloud. The inky waterway and reflections heighten the charge of the piece. This print is centred on A4 heavyweight Fabriano Accademia acid-free cartridge paper and ideal for an A4 or square frame. I’ve produced a small number on A3 paper to allow for different framing and mounting options.

This print will be despatched in a protective cardboard box with additional protective material.

Variation in appearance is a natural part of the hand-finished lino print process. All material choices are designed to produce a long-lasting, archive-quality print with a small environmental footprint.
