Work in Progress – June 2022

Silbury Hill 220gsm A4 linocut print on two choices of paper

June has been marked by production and discovery. Production in the sense of pressing new work, restocking open-edition prints and a run of new three-colour greetings cards.

Discovery in returning to sketching with pencil, white on black and black on white ink, and some thoughts on broadening out into other media and subjects.

I’ve complete my Silbury Hill linocut view and begun to print the edition. I originally planned one paper option for this but a second, more textured option has been added to work well alongside other prints, such as Cherhill Down and the White Horse.

130gsm and 220gsm prints are now available in the print shop.

Framed prints

A number of my Cherhill White Horse prints are now available framed. These are one-off frame and mount choices, including close-cropped versions and mounts in white and a smokey grey.

Some of the frames are reclaimed, while others are from name stores so can be mixed and matched easily with other works.

Greetings cards

The 3-colour Wild Garlic greeting card‘s first print run was completed, with over 40 cards. These are now available individually or as a pack of three.

New work in progress

I’ve taken advantage of the longer evenings to sketch the garden borders for a new, larger scale print of the border plants as they reach their peak – Achillea, Allium, Astrantia, Geum and more.

Here you can see an early sketch of all these, white-on-black. Later sketches have been made to arrange these into something that will work at a good size.

I’m also considering how I can merge my love of 8-bit retro gaming with my passion for handmade multiples, which will be a fun journey no matter what the outcome. Alongside this I’m making moves towards woodcut and wood engraving, with some new tools on the way.

With July already here I hope to be concentrating on new designs, completing my reduction print of Hammerton Hall and looking at some new subjects.
